About Scotland presents:

Wedderburn castle, Scotland Lion Gate

The Lion Gate

Wedderburn is one mile South East of Duns in the eastern Scottish Borders, probably the most accessible part of rural Scotland. The castle stands at the end of a smooth 500 yard private drive in an area of beautifully maintained woodland and grass parks, with distant views to the Cheviot hills. The location is completely rural, there is absolutely no traffic noise and your privacy is assured.

The dramatic cliffs, coves and castles of the coast are fifteen miles to the East, whilst two miles to the North the rich farmland of the Tweed valley changes abruptly to the moorland landscape of the Lammermuir Hills.

The Scottish Borders and Northumberland are rich in historic towns, castles and houses to visit, and this rural setting is packed with opportunities for activities such as cycling, walking, golf, shooting and fishing.

Should you choose to stay at the castle, there is a billiard room, table tennis or croquet on the lawn during the summer. In the grass park anything from a clay pigeon shoot to a full Highland Games can be arranged.

Getting Here

By Road

Wedderburn is just 13 miles from the A1 at Berwick-upon-Tweed, from which Duns is sign-posted via the A6105. Generally the A1 would be used if driving from London or the South. The castle is 45 miles (one hour's drive) from central Edinburgh via the A68. Wedderburn is clearly sign-posted from Duns. We would recommend that at least some guests have private or hire cars for their use. Alternatively there are reliable local taxis.

By Rail

The GNER East Coast Main Line stops regularly at Berwick-upon-Tweed. This station is just 40 minutes South of Edinburgh and 4 hours direct from London King's Cross. If travelling from central London, the train is probably the quickest and easiest way of getting to Wedderburn. The castle is a twenty-minute taxi ride from the station.

By Air

Edinburgh is the nearest international airport, 50 miles from Wedderburn. Local or airport taxis can be used, and the drive to Wedderburn takes about one hour and twenty minutes, depending on traffic.
