Wedderburn Castle and cottages plan
Self-catering rental holiday cottages
at Wedderburn Castle Stables.
If you are planning a holiday in the Scottish Borders or if you have been invited to a reception at the castle, our self-catering cottages are the very best you will find. Maintained to the highest standard and cared for by the castle staff you will experience a similar level of comfort to a room in the castle itself. |
Garden Cottage and the West Lodge
The West Lodge and Garden Cottage were re-built in 2006 and 2007 respectively to form two spacious, contemporary self-catering cottages, adjoining the West Gate of the castle grounds. The architectural brief was to retain the original fabric of the buildings that date from around 1820, while adding a contemporary element. The West Lodge and Garden Cottage have now been finished to the highest standard of comfort using natural materials wherever possible.
Located by the West Gate, The West Lodge has three bedrooms, three bathrooms and sleeps six. The oldest part of the building now forms a double-height kitchen and sitting room area with original wooden beams, an oversized stone fireplace and wood-fired stove. A glazed sun-room looks across surrounding lawns and leads to the newly-created bedroom wing. There are two king size double rooms and one twin room, with three modern, stylishly appointed bathrooms. The lodge has Canadian pitch pine floorboards and locally-quarried flagstones throughout. |
There are two double bedrooms with king size beds and one twin bedroom. The two double rooms have en-suite shower rooms and the twin room has its own private bathroom with over-bath shower. The kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering and the 24 hour central heating and hot water is provided by an oil-fired boiler. |

The Groom's Cottage and Keeper's Cottage
The Groom's and Keeper's cottages are the first cottages we restored and form a part of the Stables on the North drive and are only a two minute walk from the castle.
The Groom's cottage is a very pretty little place for two. It shares a lawn with the Keeper's cottage next door but fear not, the walls are sound proof! On the ground floor you will find a kitchen sitting room with an open fire and tiles salvaged from the old dairy at Paxton House. Upstairs is a cosy double bedroom and in the bathroom a lovely restored roll-top iron bath. |
The Groom's cottage (sleeps 2), though not large, is very comfortable for two people. Downstairs:
Kitchen/Sitting-room. |
Upstairs:
Double Bedroom with Bathroom. |
The Keeper's cottage is perfect for a family with up to three children, or possibly for two couples. On the ground floor is a large kitchen sitting room with an open fire. Upstairs there is a double or twin room (with double bed), one further double room and a very small single room. There is one bathroom with an original restored roll-top iron bath. |

Both of the above cottages have front and rear doors, the yard at the rear is partly cobbled, the lane at the front is gravel. The grass at the front of the cottage is secluded and sheltered and reserved for use by the cottage visitors only. This garden area has some truly 'cottage garden' flowers and herbs which appear and disappear with the seasons. |
